What do you think of this card: Is it ribbon or is it paper? What we've got here is the Faux Ribbon Technique using your cast off strips of patterned paper. I featured this on the Global Inspiration Stamp Team's New Catalogue / New In Colors weekend and it was a hit. They also like the idea of two die cuts slightly offset from each other as the embellishment. I think the star of the show is the Damask Designs embossing folder background. I was thrilled to see the Beautiful Butterflies bundle will be available in on Online Exclusives section after May 5. We made this card at my Avid Stampers class last week with this Angled Tri-Fold layout. The measurements were a bit tricky but well worth it! It sports an embossed belly band wrap around in simple white with coordinating ink and embellishments. Loved this one!
Card for my Team's Stampin' Social this week featuring all new product, the Sweet Blooms bundle and coodinating patterned paper. This one of those card layouts to have on hand when the creative juices aren't flowing! Cut your patterned paper to 1" x 3" and add them to an embossed layer. Pop a greeting on top - whether a die cut as I've used here from the bundle - or one that is die cut, hand cut or punched out. Easy-peasy!
My season for reading is coming up...I do most of my reading in the summer while relaxing in my backyard oasis. I hope to get into a few good mysteries this year and this card helps put me in the mood! We'll be making this at my May monthly card class in both my home studio and at the Breslau Community Centre. A fun way to add smaller stamps to your project! Punch or die cut holes in a layer and stamp the tinier images through. These cute cupcakes and the large greeting come from the With You in Mind stamp set. I love how the cupcakes are also embossed with clear powder. And to get coordinating ribbon, colour (and let dry) your white or vanilla ribbon with an alcohol based marker like Stampin' Blends. Happy Monday!
Cone flowers come in all colours which makes add a stamped one and colouring it in a breeze for us non-gardeners! I like the simplicity of this one image as a focal point on this card with a checkered background. A seldom used colour for me, Melon Mambo, is a nice compliement to all two greens: Old Olive and Mossy Meadow. I can see nice set of notecards using pinks, yellows, reds and purples. Hope your garden is starting to sprout beautiful colours!
Have you tried two-step stamping? A great way to add multiple colours to the same stamp by layering up the images. I'll bet if you check your stamp collection you'll see that many are two-step or multi-step stamping. This card is from my bestie Tamara Bertram in Edmonton for the recent Mini Swap. The eyelet embossing folder really sets the stage for the feel of this card with strips of coordinating patterned paper behind a circle (Spotlight on Nature). The star of the show is the two step stamping technique for the flowers - anyone know what flowers these are? And some natural linen thread to finish it off with gems. I CASE'd this one using other colours ad paper. It's a keeper layout!
A project from my monthly Quick & Simple card class at the Breslau Community Centre. This one's perfect for the beginner stamper with a piece of patterned paper on a simple white card base then a stamped layer (Gorgeous Grape ink on matching cardstock), a greeting and pop of colour with the Daffodil Delight cone flower stamped and hand cut out. Well now we demonstrators LOVE IT when a paper pack carries over into a new catalogue. Why? Because we have lots ot play with and want to share it with everyone! This is the Thoughtful Journey scene paper with muted watercolor images that make the perfect backdrop to a card. All I added was some of the lovely 1.5 inch gold open weave trim, a greeting and butterfly for accent. This was so pretty I decided we'd use it at April's Monthly Card class.
The new online exclusive Grow with Love Bundle has these pretty images of herbs along with the name at the bottom: Basil, Rosemary, Thyme and Mint. Great for the gardener on your list but wouldn't they also make a sweet set of note cards for everyday use? Jane made this for our team meeting swap in April adding the Exposed Brick 3D embossing folder and strips (likely those pesky left over pieces we all have!) to make a fine background on the cardbase. Love it!

When I saw this way of using the butterfly dies - the larger in patterned paper and a black detailed one layered on top, I knew this would be a hit. This one's totally outside my usual colour palettee with Azure Afternoon as the main colour! How did I get that coordinating ribbon? Grabbed my Stampin' Blend also in Azure (it's probably never been used) and ran it along both sides of my white ribbon. A few tips when adding alcohol based markers to ribbons: a) use a cotton based ribbon so it doesn't rub off, b) add the colour in broad strokes for evenness and c) you'll find the ribbon becomes stiffer and easier to tie in a bow that stays. The greeting on this card is from the Wanted to Say Dies which are on the last chance list at 10% off while supplies last. You'll use them...trust me on that!

Growing up we did a lot of camping...from tents to trailers across both Canada and along the eastern seaboard through winter and summer months. Great family adventures and exploring new places. Here's my swap card from our Team Stampin' Social featuring the Lovely & Sweet Stamp Set and Die bundle and coordinating Nature's Sweetness Specialty DSP. I added Petal Pink ink with a blending brush over the gold-flecked words to add some texture between that layer and the popped up leave in gold. Added some leaves in Pretty Peacock and flowers in Petal Pink with the perfect vertical greeting. Enjoy!
Did you know we have reversible stamps? Yep! You can stamp on either side for unique and different looks. Here's an example of that with the Natural Botanicals stamp set. I've found it works particularly well when the back or flat side is stamped off once for a more muted look. That's the colour I laid down first on this white layer followed by the leaf full strength. The cone flower is stamped and hand cut out. Love the uniqueness of this!
I received a card looking just like this with other velllum and I just had to duplicate it! To show off the vellum to its fullest, the 1" panel that you see embossed is part of the cardbase with another 1" x 5 1/2" piece behind it that the vellum is sandwiched between. As an alternative, substitute the vellum with a coordinating patterned paper. So very pretty, don't you think? As always, full supplies list below.
Team Make 'n Take card for April featuring this stunning Butterfly Hybrid embossing folder. What is meant by Hybrid? It also had dies that cut out the embossed images! A great pairing of products. This makes up a super quick card with the very detailed embossed layer in Bubble Bath, a few gems and a simple greeting. Enjoy!
Here's that Natural Botanicals making an appearance again! Collage stamping is where you randomly (ok not always totally randomly in my case) an image on a layer. I often choose one colour but you can do 2, 3, 4 and more! This was Poppy Parade with a stamped off larger image cut by hand and popped up on the front layer. I love the idea of 3s - 3 colours, 3 stamps, that kind of thing. So with my Poppy Parade I added Basic Gray and Basic White. Hope this brighten's YOUR day!
Sharing one of the Avid Stampers cards from March featuring the Delightful Wishes bundle. Loads of value with this: 14 stamps and 19 dies! It makes the prettiest of floral cards and has coordinating Floral Delight patterned paper. This stem is a die which you can use with other florals in your collection. I laid this grouping onto a layer of the Exposed Brick (all time favourite embossing folder) in Old Olive. We really enjoy making this one at class!
One of my April Monthly Card Class projects! Gorgeous gold accents on a Pretty Peacock card base with a Basic Black layer to help it pop. In this monthly class you always get to choose alternate greetings to supplement your supply of cards. They're great for the beginner crafter to learn from as well as appreciated by the avid crafter. Bold bright colours from the Friends of the Ocean patterned paper. I didn't invest in the coordinating bundle as one of my fave seashell ones is the Seaside Wishes bundle. Normally I work in blues and crumb cake with that set so it was a nice diversion to use these colours from the patterned paper: Coastal Cabana, Lemon Lime Twist, Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie. If you're stumped on how to get started with a card, grab a pack of patterned paper and pull it all together using the colour palette on the packaging. A great way to get launched!
Soft flowing colours for a quick and simple birthday card. Recognize this stamp set? It's the Reversible Stamp called Natural Botanicals. It truly is reversible! I'll show that in a future card. For today. I stamped the cone flower in Fresh Freesia on a small white layer then stamped my greeting over top in Blueberry Bushel ink. Layered that up onto coordinating Fresh Freesia cardstock to sit on top of another collage stamped 2 1/2" x 5 1/2" layer. Basic Beige as a card base and the ink used for the leaf is a perfect match to the Fresh Freesia. Finished off with a pop of Blueberry Bushel embellishments. Like this simple card!
I designed this card for the TLC tutorial group for March. A great way to use up 3/4" strips of the scrapbook kit Everyday You and Me. I laid 7 coordinating strips measuring 3/4" x 5" on a piece of 4" x 5 1/4" cardstock in a diagonal pattern. Then - the piece de resistance - I embossed the whole thing with the Cute Crochet folder. Gives it some awesome texture. Any folder will do! Before adding a greeting and laying it down on the card front, I grabbed my Lost Lagoon Stampin' Blend (alcohol based marker) and coloured some iridescent pearls and white ribbon. Always buy white ribbon and colour this way to match your project. Shh....don't tell anyone how easy it was!
A new catalogue is around the corner dropping May 6 which means some of our beloved stamp sets and patterned papers are retiring. If you've got little ones in your life, scoop up the Flying By Stamp Set #163685 before it's gone for good! It has a helicopter, paper airplanes, spaceship, airplane and clouds together with 4 separate greetings! Lots of value for just $26. I did an easy fun fold with a 1" flap on the left and a layer on the front tied with some vanilla and black gingham ribbon. Pairs great with the also retiring Take to the Sky patterned paper #163436. I like the simplicity of today's card as it makes it so duplicatable with any product in my stash. Kind of like the "Campbell's Soup" recipes. Add Cream of anything soup and you've got a meal in a jif. The recipe for this card is: 1 dry embossed layer, 4 pieces of scrap patterned paper set "higgly piggly" on the front, add a ribbon or die cut and finish off with a greeting on a punched or die cut layer; sprinkle with embellishments "to taste". It works, right? Enjoy!
And here's my swap card from last weekend featuring the Darling Dinos Bundle. My first real play with it! I know Allistair will love this. I couldn't stop with the layers and kept adding and adding until finally this result. the front flap flips open to reveal a message on the inside as well.
Today's card was designed by Dawn for the Shoebox Swap and was a real joy to put together! Got me out of my comfort zone with some small stamps in various colours to create the floral scenes top and bottom of the basic white layer. If you try this, stamp the greeting first to ensure you've got lots of space for it. This is from the Birthday Celebration we used for my January Avid Stampers Class but wow - this card is a completely different take on that bundle. Have a great day!
Here's the inside of a fun pop up card Holly designed for the Shoebox Swap. It's interacive! The front flap drops down (and tucks in under the Moody Mauve cardstock flap at the top) to reveal the two mugs. I'll miss Moody Mauve which has been a soft and earthy colour in the palette to play with these past two years. Maybe it will come back in a future colour refresh! Enjoy!
What a pretty Thank you card Jane designed for us to make at the Shoebox Swap! This paper is all kinds of florals and food - reminding me to head up our Farmer's Market once in a while. We fussy cut the bouquet, stamped the greeting and did the assembly in a snap! Another wonderful way to use up your scraps by trimming to 1"squares and layering them around a larger one with your greeting. Enjoy!
A fun bookmark! Think outside the box with your stamps and create beyond a card. Laurie designed this one for us for the Shoebox Swap and now I've got a new bookmark! We added a rustic touch with the little sliver of patterned paper along the side and multi-coloured Baker's Twine. Most definitely, this one's for the books!
Saturday's Team Shoebox Swap was just what I needed! A chance to be the "customer" and make the cards others designed. This one's by Stacey and had us hand cutting out the flowers (easy) and assembling (easier). Stacey stamped the greeting onto vellum for us (easiest!) by using Versamark first then Old Olive. It heat embossed to perfection. A very cheery card for what was a cold and wet day. Thanks for stopping by!
I was looking for a card I could teach to a new group of stampers that involved just one ink pad so we avoid cross contamination (and you know what I mean by that!) but added texture to it as well. I think I nailed it on this one! This is one of the first stamp set I got from the 2024-2025 annual catalogue called Loveliest Tree. I stamped it full strenght in Old Olive ink on the right side of the white layer then without re-inking I stamped it to the left. It overlaps a wee but that that's okay with me. A small layer of Old Olive card stock embossed with the Fern 3D embossing folder gave that natural texture I wanted. As I always I need a little bit of ribbon and gems on my cards so I opted for this Night of Navy behind the stamped greeting and coloured some Iridescent Pearl Basic Jewels with coordinating Night of Navy Stampin' Blends to finish it off. We'll be making this one at the April 12 Spring Fling in Hespeler.
Another great find on the Last Chance list that you've gotta grab: Frosted Forest Decorative Masks #164350 for $10.50. And with that you can make this amazing tree! These masks are numbered to know which to layer on first with a little notch in the corner so lining them up is a snap. Using a Blending brush or wedge of sponge to add your ink through the mask onto cardstock. For my card, I used Basic Beige as the background just to add a little different colour than stark white. Perfect for any occasion especially masculine cards. Get these!
Do you remember making paper airplanes at school? I vividly recall being taught to do this with newspaper and being amazing at how they flew across the room! That all came to mind when I saw the Flying By stamp set in the Annual catalogue. There are various modes of transportation included in this set as well as 4 greetings with those dots at the beginning and end. You can add this to any greeting with a Stampin' Write marker, too!
