Gears & Textures meets Echos of Detail

This is an absolutely gorgeous card in neutrals and metallics created by Stacey for our August meeting swap. Wow! I love all the texture from the embossing folder to the gold foil gears, heat embossing, collage stamping and finished off with the pentagon embellishments. Shows how products from various suites and bundles work beautifully in concert. Enjoy!

All Aflutter around the Floral Vignette

Keeping it simple with a three-colour palette, Peaceful Pine, Barely Blush and Basic White, today’s card works on so many levels. First I stamped the white layer multiple times with the large flower from Floral Vignette, then added some Peaceful Pine butterflies from All Aflutter. The Peaceful Pine ribbon is a nice touch that adds a soft element to the project. Enjoy!

Row and Relax on a Waterside Retreat

Sharing a 2nd sample of stepping up your cards with a fun fold presented at the July Global Inspiration Stamp Team event. This time using the Waterside Retreat bundle. I really do like the first card with the boat bumpers or boat fenders hanging on the wall. In the back fold option, we’ve got extra matted layers and the stitched square backdrop for the chair. It sure looks relaxing!

Distressing Embossed Layers are WOW with two-tone cardstock

Another play with two-tone cardstock, this time with Crushed Curry and the Sunflower 3D embossing folder. Used a lighter touch with the sandpaper focusing on the tips of the petals and leaves. Appreciate the soft yellow with black and white accents. Enjoy!

Bringing Best Wishes with Balloon Festoon Dies

Welcome to Balloon Festoon fun. I may have made an error in judgment….Instead of ordering the Balloon Festoon bundle, I got just the dies. That led me to finding a way to use the largest balloon die as a card base and that’s how we landed on today’s project. Tips: With a folded cardbase, place the die down below the fold to have about a 1.5 inch flat edge for the fold. Cuts through both layers of cardstock like butter. Once cut, then emboss the front only. Cut another balloon for the inside. I went with the Words Wishes dies for the front.

Did you know the Artisan Sketched Garden is chock full of images you can colour in with watercolor pencils, markers, Stampin’ Blends and even use your blending brushes on for a soft look? Or keep to the black and white and add a ribbon and embellishments with Poppy Parade or Strawberry Slush. Loads of possibilities. Enjoy!

Stunning Sunsets

My team member Dawn’s take on the Eclipse Card layout using just one of the pattern papers by alternating the raised and flat paper strips. Gosh this Scenic Coast patterned paper doesn’t disappoint with the many shades reds, yellows, golds for the sunset. It kind of has the feel of a “Group of Seven” paintings with the choppy water. Your history lesson for today: The Group of Seven was a famous collective of Canadian landscape painters including Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson, and J.E.H. MacDonald. Active from 1920 to 1933, they broke away from European styles to paint the wild beauty of Canada using bright colors and bold brushstrokes.

Getting Wild with the Wild Bunch

Who wouldn’t want to receive this adorable card in the mail? Created by Holly for our recent team swap, this sweet snail looks amazing in Golden Glow, Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock. The paper blocking technique here using the same shades to meld with the colouring adds a lot to the card front. Thanks, Holly!

Two-Tone Cardstock for the win!

Happy Holiday Monday! Here in Ontario we celebrate it as a Civic Holiday. Locally, in Guelph, where I live, we call it John Galt Day in recognition of the founder of Guelph, ON.

I finally cracked open a package of two-tone cardstock to see what all the excitement is about and it’s real! One side of our two-tone is a light and the other a dark shade of the colour with a white inner core. This makes it perfect for sanding, embossing, and distressing on your cards and paper projects. That’s how I got the rustic look on today’s card: embossed with the Fern & Flora embossing folder and distressed with a piece of sandpaper. Enjoy!

Cute Masculine Bicycle Card

Sneak Peek at one of three August Monthly card class projects. A sweet birthday card using the bicycle images from the Waterside Retreat patterned paper pack. To get some coordinating twine in Cajun Craze, I used my Cajun Craze Stampin' Blend to colour the regular linen thread using a gentle brushstroke. It dries quite quickly, but to be sure, let it sit a good hour then tie your bow. A quick and simple one!

Splash & Relax Project Sampler

Sometimes you land on a suite of products that work beautifully together for cards and more. The Splash & Relax bundle was just that bundle. Pulling some seashells from a retired set, this is the happiest summer wall art project for an over the top "more" creation. With a finished size of 12" x 12" I have mine up on a wall in my office to enjoy through the summer months. It was super popular with the Elmira Community Living class where the 12 participants had a great time putting it all together. Enjoy!

Stunning Fern & Flora Bundle

On today’s card, I built a little scene from the bottom up as my focal point. Starting with a Golden Glow rectangle, I added another smaller on in Peaceful Pine. Then the stamping layer using the tiny vertical lines stamp multiple times. On this I added die cuts of the leaves, greenery and flowers as well as two stamp butterflies topped off by a double bow of linen thread. It left me a little room at the bottom for a greeting or instead, that would have been a layer of its own. Enjoy!

Stepping up your cards with a Back Fold Fun Fold

Sharing my pretty thinking of you card and its stepped up version as featured in the July 10-11 Global Inspiration Stamp Team event for customers. Our goal that day was to share a pretty card and then using most of the same supplies, a fun fold that takes your card making up a notch (or two!). It's fun learning something new, right? For my presentation, the fun fold was the Back Fold card as shown in the second photo. Your thoughts?

Flip flopping your way through the summer with the Splash and Relax Bundle

Today's card just brings a smile to my face with the stinkin' cute flip flops in bright summer colours. Looking at the card from this vantage, I see the strip down the centre as a beach towel. What do you think? I really love the look of the Lazy Daisy embossing folder to add to the whimsical look of this project. Bring on the sunshine!

Stunning Garden Silhouette Hot Foil Card

I'm excited to share one of my first card made with the new Stampin' Up! Hot Foil System with the coordinating Garden Silhouette Hot Foil Die. It's one large die that, once heated with the system, seemlessly applies gold foil onto black cardstock resulting in this elegant layer. The Hot Foil System coordinates with the Stampin' Cut and Emboss Machine for the final transfer. So easy to work with and with a stunning result. More to come!

The Triplets Layout

Here's a layout I haven't used in a while...called "Triplets". It works well for small images by putting them on shapes that will fit on a card - like a square or circle. For these, I coloured them in with Berry Burst and Peaceful Pine Stampin' Blends to coordinate with the Moonlit Flora patterned paper. Love how this colours combination works together.

A faux stair step card featuring Waterside Retreat

The Faux Stair Step card layout is awesome for showing off the wonderful Waterside Retreat patterned paper. I've added the Adirondack Chair to it as well for some great layering up of textures and colours. Where will the message go on this type of card? Cut a piece of white or vanilla and place it on the back panel. Too cute!

Turn your Back Fold card on its side for the bottom fold

Made this lovely card with my team members at the July Stampin' Social. It's a Back Fold fun fold but I've turned it on its side for fold back at the bottom and turning this one into a gift card holder, too. These cute birds are my favourite from the Cutest Crew stamp set. With the bright pink (Melon Mambo) set against the black and white accents, they just pop off the page. Enjoy!

Simple supplies make a stunning card!

With patterned paper like Moonlit Flora simple shapes really make a statement on your project. I layered 3 from different stitched ones in the Stylish Shapes dies set over an embossed layer with the coordinating Fern & Flora folder. I added a little colour to the stark white layer to soften it using Berry Burst ink and a blending brush. Duplicate this layout on your next card.

This is one of those cards you leave out for all to enjoy. The greeting goes on the back on one of the coordinating Every Day Arches dies. Pinwheel Fun Fold with Relaxing Waterside

Ever made a Pinwheel card? It's a very cool layout that still folds flat and fits in a standard envelope. What a masterpiece for putting on display. Works well for patterned paper, images or even photos. Tip: Colour the ends of the bullrushes with a Pecan Pie stampin' blend once cut out of Gray Granite. Works great! Best to avoid popping layers up on dimensionals to enable folding for mailing. This was a hit at the June Avid Stampers Class where everyone took home the Relaxing Waterside bundle. Love it!

Beautiful Moth

Made this beautiful card for my July  Team Tutorial. The moth is stunning in Soft Sea Foam against the other greens in the Moonlit Flora paper. Reminds me of visits to the Butterfly Conservatory in Cambridge, ON where – on a cold blustery day – you can enjoy the warmth of a tropical paradise surrounded by butterflies and moths and a few other creatures.  Not for those who don’t love these creatures landing on them but if you do, it’s a must-do!

Capturing Smiles Swap Card

Had my team Stampin’ Social last week and most everyone who attends will swap cards with each other. This is mine featuring the Capturing Smiles bundle. Unless you’re a photography buff, I imagine you take most of your photos with your phone or possibly your tablet (if you’re a boomer, that is!). With vacation season upon us, this bundle will be a hit for scrapbook pages as well as cute cards. I love the look of Coastal Cabana with a pop of pink and black. It really gives a pop.

Floral Charm Treat Holders

For my June monthly card class treats, I made this teeny baskets with some retiring papers. I don’t often put Peppermint Patties in my treat holders because….I cannot be trusted to have them on hand and not eat them all. A special treat for my class goers. They loved it. It’s a simple box that measures 2” x ¾” by 1” with a handle affixed with a Velcro dot. Simple in design with a sweet treat inside!

Relaxing Waterside

Are you taking some time to relax into summer? That’s all I think about when I see an Adirondack chair. Did you know it was invented in the very early 1900s by Thomas Lee in Westport, New York which is located in Adirondack Park? They and were popularized in tuberculosis sanatoriums because the armrests helped open up the sitters’ chests. Since the 1980s it’s been marketed in Canada as a “Muskoka chair” but they did not originate in the Muskokas! (source: Wikipedia)

This fancy fold is my rendition featuring the Relaxing Waterside Suite Collection on a fun fold diorama card layout. Enjoy!

Splash and Relax with Fun in the Sun

Who’s ready to hit the beach? Time for some sand, sun, waves and flip flops. This month I’m the Creative Ambassador on my team’s page and this is one of the 5 projects. My colour palette is: Lemon Lolly, Summer Splash and Coastal Cabana with Basic Black as the neutral. The lid for the cup is Pool Party just slightly lighter in tone than it’s cousin Coastal Cabana. A tip for using the small dies is to put Adhesive sheets on the paper before die cutting – makes adhere small pieces together without tearing or squishing liquid glue. Enjoy!

Boutique Blossoms Wreath Card

I’ve often used leaves and even small flowers to create a circular wreath on a card but this time I went with a semi-circle. Tip: start by placing a pencil mark in the semi-circle shape and build on top first with some leaves, then the flowers (odd numbers are best) then tuck in some additional floral images or small butterflies/leaves. Once I “auditioned” the card (by laying the die cuts down), I took a picture with my phone then removed them to do the stamping. I’m so please with how it turned out.
