Cut & Shuffle Technique for Patterned Paper

Got a stash of patterned paper at your house? I sure do! I'm always looking for ways to use it in unique and fun layouts. I happened upon this by Cindy Brumbaugh out of the United States and think it's just so versatile for any pattern - large or small; directional or not. You'll use this idea over and over again.

Beach Fun Fold Card with loads of texture

A fun fold card from my sister demonstrator Joanne McTavish featuring all the beauty of the By The Bay Suite Collection: stamps and matching dies, and stunning Speciality patterned paper with gorgeous gold accents! I like what Joanne did here: she die cut the shells right out of the patterned paper. They already have embossing imbedded in the dies so it picks up loads of colour from the paper. A little Wink of Stella on the seashell and an embossed layer from a coordinating product, the Seaside Shells embossing folder. Has me excited for those heading to the beach!

Sending Heartfelt Greetings

For those special cards sending heartfelt greetings to friends and family, I often choose a simple sympathy greeting with a soft floral accent. Just to let them know I'm thinking about them in their time of need or sorrow. I was really drawn to the colours used in this card designed by Christine Dionne and feel she chose just the right combination of accents and textures. So delicate and beautiful.

Flower Border

Today's card is one we did in my January Love You More Avid Stampers Class. If you have a small flower or other stamped image you can create this same effect of covering where the white and patterned papers meet. With the old olive checks below and the white above, this colourful border makes a bold statement! Lovely thank you card for a friend. Enjoy these bright colours for today!

Calling all Cyclists: this one's for you!

Shhh....don't tell them but a few of my co-workers who are big cyclists will be getting these cards for their birthdays this year! When I saw this Greatest Journey bundle I knew this would be perfect for those guys. In the set there's a cyclist, a hiker and a tent all without stamped images so these are a great set of stand alone dies. But of course I had to get the bundle because it's a great deal, right? Plus the greeting is awesome. Enjoy...cycling days are coming soon!

What comes to mind when you read this greeting: "You've got a friend in me?" ....why Toy Story of course! I can't stop singing the song, in fact. This Silly Goose stamp set has 6 greetings and 4 goose line art images suitable for colouring in, sponging over or leaving blank. Quite cute for all kinds of occasions. Today's pretty card was designed by Laura Buechler and shared in a swap with me. Stunning flowers from the Two-Tone Flora bundle which I don't own (yet)...but as a crafter you know it won't be long. Marcy's card sold me on getting the Easter Bunny stamp set I can't wait to make some additional non-Easter specific cards with it as well. Garden Gnomes

Oh the sweetest of garden adornments: Gnomes! Do you have one? I don't have a garden so gnome yet...but ourfamily knows all about Mr. G Nome in my cousin Barb's garden. This stamp set makes one sweet everyday, birthday or valentine card with the gnome holding a heart. Happy Family Day!

Versatile Dainty Delight Card Layout

Have you seen the Dainty Delight bundle? It's sooo popular it's currently unavailable but rest assured it's back in stock mid-March and that's when I'm getting mine. I received this card from Linda Yamamoto in a card swap and it's such a great layout for whatever you have in your stash before your Dainty Delight bundle arrives! The gold paper is from our Brushed Metallic collection and the embossing folder is Painted Texture 3D which I've used for "furr" on an animal and "waves" on a nautical card - so versatile!

This card was shared with me from Deb Duval and so reminds me of my friend Diana who has a drum kit! Pairs up the Merry Meloday embossing folder with this Enjoy the Rhythm stamp set. Other stamps in the set are a keyboard, set of musical notes, 4 greetings and a guitar. Love this card!

Delicate Die Cut makes a pretty background

I enjoy putting an embossed layer on a card front to add texture and dimension to my creations, and our Two Tone Flora really takes that to a new level!

The stamp set features various flowers for two-step stamping so you can add multiple layers of dimension to your stamped image, and the coordinating dies have a large 4" x 5 1/2" die that covers the entire front of a standard card. Hint: You'll want to use your adhesive sheets on the back of the cardstock before cutting out the die to make it adhere easily to the front.

Today's card features Soft Sea Foam and Night of Navy for a winning combination! My thanks to Dana Hancock for this beautiful card received in a swap.

Simple, Cute Card Layout

Sharing another birthday card I received with one of my fave Patterned Papers in the Annual Catalogues, Happy Forest Friends #158941. It's suitable for baby cards, everyday cards and anyone cards. A super great layout to take note of friends:

Awash in Beauty Birthday Card

I received this stunning birthday card in the mail from my friend Diane Hutchinson from Alberta. Such gorgeous detail in the heat embossed flowers that were coloured in with our Watercolor Pencils and a blender pen to smooth out the lines. The suite collectiong is from our Annual Catalogue on page 109 in the Hues of Happiness collection. A bright cheery card for my 61st birthday last month. Thanks, Diane!

It's a dancing rabbit!

Doesn't this character bring a smile to your face with the ridiculously cute paper and what reminds me of Fred Astaire dancing (ok...by a rabbit)? Birthday Card fit for a Queen Bee!

The new Queen Bee Bundle from the mini is a natural match with our Abigail Rose patterned paper in the Annual Catalougue especially done in these early tones and a pop of green and yellow for accents. And those ovals? They're from Framed Florets which I've featured a fair bit because...well you have to get them! The patterned paper is beautiful on its own, but don't be afraid to stamp on it to add more texture and tie in your patterns. Thanks, Elizabeth Green for this beautiful card.

Etch-a-Sketch anyone?

 If you're of a certain age...you definitely remember playing with the Etch-a-Sketch toy! Shaking it and redrawing was just part of the magic of watching the picture come to life. Mi Ran Bigrigg designed this reminiscent card which you could so easily replicate with any of our line art style stamp set. Frame Cards

Have you got nesting dies? Any of these: Layering Circles, Stitched Rectangles, Stylish Shapes, Beautiful Shapes? Then you can make this card!

To make the frame, die cut one shape out. Then from that piece, die cut another smaller one of the same shape (rectangles, circles, hexagons...whatever you've got so long as they next). Play with using the next size down or skipping a size to made a different width frame.

In addition, I showed how to step out of the usual box and use coloured cardstock with a strip of your left over patterned paper for the INSIDE of your card! How many times do we reach for Basic White and slide that inside. Give a coloured cardstock piece a chance to shine! Here's the inside to my card above made with the Stitched Rectangles:

Seaside Bay Scene Card with Watercoloring

Today's card has a lovely backdrop of subtle watercoloring. We have Watercolor paper and water painters to achieve this easily. Just squeeze your ink pad to add ink to the lid and dip your water painter in there to pick up the colour. Another was is to put a block into the ink pad and use that as your palette for watercoloring. This was my Shoebox Swap card with scene designed with the Seaside Bay Bundle from our Jan to April Mini catalogue.

Abigail Rose meets Nature's Prints

Beautifully Crafted Gift Box

For What's Up Wednesday this week, I demonstrated this beautiful gift box that's so easy to make! It measures 4" wide x 4" deep x 6" tall so will hold a lot of treats and goodies for your loved ones this Valentine's Day!

But wait! This isn't JUST for Valentine's Day. Imagine the possibilities: Birthdays, Graduation, Shower Gift, or just about anyday! The heart is integral to the closure on this one, but you could easily forego the cuts to make the points for the hearts at the top and close it up with a velcro dot so it's both easy to open and keeps the box intact for re-gifting! As well, use the patterned paper in your stash to create this for any occasion.

Elegant In the Country Card

Another In the Country card the easy way! For this one, I stamped the large image in Gray Granite on light coloured cardstock (Mint Macaron) and dressed it up with pretty papers all around. An elegant card suitable for any occasion. Enjoy!
